I know it is a bit weird to write about something that happened at Christmas, but hear me out. I didn’t write this up on my blog at the time because, I think we all thought restrictions would ease and things would start to get back to normal. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, so The Liquorists have continued with their online cruises. For that reason, I thought I would tell you about their Christmas cruise and also give you some information about their future cruises, both online and on the boat.
When you book on a Liquorists cruise, you aren’t just signing up for a cocktail tasting. The provide the pre-mixed booze, any mixers needed, garnishes and straws including some sweets to nibble on as the evening progresses. The Christmas cruise also included a Covid bingo game and instructions to don our best Christmas jumpers for the evening on Zoom. We couldn’t go to a Christmas party, so the party came to us and I, for one was very grateful. I really have missed people in general. I miss the random bartenders I chat to when out and about, I miss meeting new people at events. This way, I could do that without leaving my living room.
Sat in front of my laptop to listen to the Liquorists explain each of the fixe cocktails included in the cruise, I poured the Candy Cane Collins and settled in for the evening. I love how educational the sessions are and, even though the cocktails arrive ready to be shaken with ice, the guys from the Liquorists talk you through each drink so you could recreate them at home should you wish.
I really wish they sold these gorgeous metal bottles of their booze individually because I would genuinely order by the case. There are some lovely options and I like that they think outside the box when it comes to their flavours. The addition of sage in the Blackberry and Sage Smash for example, is not something I would have thought to create but it really worked and the sage gave a richness to the fruity blackberry fruits.
The Better Than Baileys was one of my favourites of the night. I’m not averse to the odd Baileys (I wrote about a little hack using Baileys here) and this is a delicious take on it that is light yet still creamy.
90 minutes and 5 drinks later, we played Covid Bingo and bid the Liquorists goodbye for the night. It was quite a quick one but a thoroughly enjoyable evening and one that I can’t wait to do all over again.
With lockdown continuing, the Liquorists are continuing with their e cruises and you can jump on either a local rum e cruise or a local G&T e cruise.
