Early March saw me heading back to the Intu Trafford Centre for another blogger event. I had a great time at the La Senza event (you can catch up HERE if you missed it) despite being nervous before attending. This time the topic of the evening was shoes, something I know a lot about. Nerves were definitely not the feel of the night, excitement was!
My defining shoe moment has to be purchasing the most beautiful pair of Christian Louboutin wedges in Bergdorf Goodman on New Years Eve in New York. My own ‘Carrie’ moment! Those shoes are now 6 years old and have been out of their box 3 times. Out of the box but never worn on a pavement, oh no, they are ‘inside’ shoes. Some may say this is a waste especially considering the small fortune I paid for them but still, they are mine and I adore them like a mother loves her child.
As if they had read my mind, Lego had made these Louboutin heels especially for the evening. Aren’t they great?
We were greeted at the Circle 360 bar by Amanda from Skinny Champagne with a glass of her new fizz. This grand cru has no sugar and 20% less calories than regular champagne, perfect for the party girl who is watching her waistline! It’s quite dry but with a good acidity, you don’t miss the sugar at all.
To balance out the ‘skinniness’ of the champagne there were gorgeous cupcakes from Zara Cakes adorned with all the different type of shoes you can imagine. These were my favourites and I managed to snaffle the Dorothy style shoe cake for myself, not that is lasted long.
The evening started with a presentation from Style Psychology who explained you can tell a lot about a person by the type of shoes they wear. Obviously, most women will tell you they already know this. As an avid watcher of Dinner Date I am always amazed by the comments such as, “I don’t care what he looks like but if he is wearing brown shoes I could not date him”. For me, as long as a man’s shoes are clean and go with his outfit, surely that’s enough? Well Style Psychology kind of backed up the Dinner Date contestant’s sentiments in saying different styles and colours can tell you a lot about the person. Red stilettos, for example, can portray a confident, independent and slightly aggressive woman. At this point I started to feel more nervous, not only do I need to think about what outfit to wear on a date or night out but now I need to pay more attention to my shoes? What did my trusty flats say about me?
I needn’t have worried, apparently flats are in fashion for Spring (I mean yes, obviously I knew that and it was completely the reason I wore them to the event) and they portray a like of comfort but also someone who is strong, professional and independent. I like to think this is a good description of my character! Also in fashion this season are sports luxe (a social and creative person would choose this style) and male style brogues (for the more robust and powerful woman).
The presentation was fascinating but then the word ‘competition’ was uttered and we had a completely different focus. We had the chance to win the amazing Lego Louboutins! I have to say I learnt that my knowledge of vintage shoes is dire although I know far too much about the shoes of celebrities and film stars. I mean Justin from Intu Trafford Centre only had to utter the words “the most stylish female ever in a TV series wore these” and I knew it would be the amazing ‘Something Blue’ Manolo Blahnik’s that Carrie Bradshaw wore on her wedding day.

If I ever get married I’ll be hunting a pair down, anyway, I didn’t win the Lego shoes but I did get to pop down to the Shoetopia event where there was a giant pink shoe for guests of Intu Trafford Centre to have their picture taken, a shoe illustrator drawing new purchases and an array of gorgeous heels from some of the stores at the Centre.
