See The World From Your Sofa – The Best Virtual Tours Worldwide

Travel is the last thing we can do right now. Obviously with the lock down in the UK, we are confined to our houses to only dream of the sights the world has to offer. That does not mean that we can’t experience the worlds’ wonders via the power of the internet! Here are my favourite virtual tours around the world.

NASA’s Langley Research Center

I am a massive space geek, it truly fascinates me and I stood on my doorstep the other night to watch the ISS Space Station fly over my house. Whilst I have been to Florida a few times, I have never managed to get to Kennedy Space Center but it is firmly on my ‘to do’ list for next year. For now, I am geeking out at this virtual tour of the Langley Research Center.

Athens Acropolis

High above the Greece’s capital is the UNESCO world heritage site, Acropolis. Its monuments and sanctuaries are amongst the most important ancient sights in the Western world. This tour allows you to take in the marble features in all their glory.

Great Wall of China

One of the great wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China spans more than 3000 miles of Northern China. Here you can virtually walk a section of the wall and take in the incredible sights across China from the wall’s edge.

Petra

Petra in Jordan was high on my wish list when I visited Egypt but unfortunately the tours were suspended for safety reasons and I never managed to get there. Other peoples’ beliefs fascinate me so this virtual tour is perfect for me and there is a voiceover too, so you can learn more about what you are looking at.

Machu Picchu

Due to heavy tourism, access to Machu Picchu has already been limited, before we were all forced into lockdown with no travel. You can keep it that way, save your legs and visit Machu Picchu virtually!

Taj Mahal

You can escape the crowds of India and visit the Taj Mahal from the comfort of your living room. The white marble mausoleum was built in the 17th century as a monument of love to house the remains of the king’s wife. Many romantics flock to see it in the modern day and you can take a look around now.

Chester Zoo

More local to me on today’s virtual tours is Chester Zoo. Located in the North of England, Chester Zoo is home to baby meerkats, baby giraffes and my favourite, Asian elephants. The zoo are doing live broadcasts from the zoo but you can catch up on YouTube if you miss the time slots.

The White House

The home of the President of the United States, step foot into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for a look around Donald Trump’s Washington home. Visits in person are incredibly limited so this is a great opportunity to do something virtually that you are unlikely to be able to do in real life.

Chelsea Flower Show

Bring a bit of colour into your life and take a virtual tour of Chelsea Flower Show. The displays are sensational and you can take some inspiration for ways to brighten up your home this spring.

Louvre Museum

Take a trip to the world’s largest museum and tour the individual exhibitions and galleries. Just think, when they open their doors again you will be able to take in so much more.

The Vatican –

Another museum worth a virtual look around is the Vatican and each building is listed, so you can tour them all. The Sistine Chapel is particularly impressive. The home of the Pope is just as jaw droppingly beautiful through your laptop as it is in real life.

Beaches in Curacao

If you are missing the sea like me, you can take a virtual tour over to Curacao to explore the coasts. I have added it to my travel bucket list, that’s for sure.

What are your favourite virtual tours? Add them in the comments so I can expand my wanderlust!
