I am totally blaming this purchase on Miss Makeup Magpie who’s blog I am completely obsessed with for her honest product reviews and fabulous photographs. She has reviewed a few different Memebox‘s on her blog and I couldn’t resist any more.
Memebox is a Korean beauty box that, unlike most UK beauty boxes, you don’t need to subscribe to. Each box is themed and contains full or deluxe sample sized products. There are lots of collections to choose from at any one time – just read through the descriptions and pick which one you fancy. Because they are coming from Korea they can take a fair while to be shipped but it is worth it to try something completely new. Korean products are difficult to source and for someone new to the Korean beauty market it can be difficult to decide what to try first. This way you get a selection for a bargain price.
I chose the #36 Meme’s Pouch for my first purchase which is now sold out. For $23 (approximately £14) and $6.99 (approximately £4) shipping I was sent six full sized products that are favourites with Memeboxers around the world and items that they recommend to be daily must haves for your makeup bag.
My products arrived in a sturdy bright pink box with a flip lid surrounded by a padded envelope so very little excess packaging. Something that has always been a bit of a bugbear for me with Glossybox.
I was super excited to find a brilliant selection of hair, body and face products without a tiny sample in sight. So what did I get?
Drww. Mix and Match 1 Set ($47 approximately £30.29)
This lip and cheek palette contains a concealer, lip balm and three lip tints as well as a mixing pot to combine the products for a bespoke look. The palette is in a cardboard palette with a magnet closure which I really like as it keeps things small and compact. I love the concealer in this palette. It is fairly light but blends well and is a lovely creamy consistency which hydrates rather than dries the skin. I do think a concealer is a strange addition to a lip and cheek palette though, I would have thought they would stick with tints that are multi purpose. The only product I would use on my cheeks from this set is the bright pink shade French Kiss as the others are much brighter. I’m not a huge fan of the other colours for my lips either but they have great staying power and a slight sheen on the skin which is a nice change when using a tint.
Evas Rose Mine Perfumed Hand Cream $12 (approximately £7.73
This perfumed hand cream was randomly selected from three different scents and I received Gleaming Bijou. Evas is apparently renowned in Korea for their perfumed hand cream series and this one is scented with lilac, peony and amber notes. The light floral scent really compliments my daily perfume (Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb) without overpowering it. The cream is light and really hydrating. It isn’t thick at all and sinks in quickly with no stickiness.
Valley Sous Hair Solution Protein Therapy Perfect Mist $21 (approximately £13.53
This hair mist contains 20 different kinds of protein and natural ingredients including hair saviour argan oil to nourish and repair damaged hair. It is supposed to have a musk fragrance but I couldn’t smell this. I wouldn’t call it a ‘mist’ either as the spray isn’t very fine at all but I love this as a protection spray when used on wet hair. It helped my hair dry faster, left it feeling soft and is much easier to use than Moroccanoil. It is also in a 150ml bottle meaning lots of product for the price tag. This was my favourite product from the box.
Evas By Marait Eau De Parfum $30 (approximately £19.33
This was another randomly selected fragrance and I was initially disappointed with the No.72 Petite Princesse fragrance I was sent. Described as a rich rose fragrance with raspberry, rose, orchid, iris, musk and amber notes I was expecting this to be really sickly and old fashioned. When first sprayed the scent is heavily rose dominated but it quickly mellows and the other floral notes come through to balance it out. I had to re-spray later in the day as the scent doesn’t last on my skin as well as other fragrances I use but the 30ml bottle is perfect for my handbag and the $30 price tag is very reasonable.
Etude House Blotting Paper Pact $6 (approximately £3.87
The packaging of this blotting paper compact reminded me of Benefit’s vintage girlie theme and for $6 it is incredibly sturdy with a mirror in the lid too. The blotting paper is made from Hanji which is the traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees which is known to be gentle to the skin and helps to remove excess moisture and sebum. There is no mess either as the included puff picks up a single sheet of the paper perfectly. I found this really helped midday to keep my skin looking matte. I wish I knew where I could get refills!
Croquis Alight Pact $35 (approximately £22.56
This is the only brand I had heard of from my box and I was especially excited to get another makeup product in my box. The pact has three coloured marble powders which is description says adds definition to the face and a fine lustre to the skin. The powder is fine with little fallout and heavily pigmented – a bit too pigmented for me when it comes to a cheek product to be honest as it was difficult to build and blend the colour. It is illuminating and reflects the light beautifully. I’d have liked the circles of colour to be slightly larger so each could be used as individual colours but the colour of the three combined colours is light with a silver sheen, very different to my other highlighters so definitely something I will use.
There you have it! I was lucky enough to bag Memebox’s 3 for 2 with free express shipping last month so they are on the way to me as we speak. I can’t wait to see what arrives and will be sure to tell you all about them. If you fancy trying Memebox I’d recommend visiting their website regularly as they have offers on certain boxes and new ones being created all the time.
