Kombucha is something that I had never tried until recently. The idea of drinking something fermented really put me off and I just couldn’t bring myself to try it. So when local company Booch and Brew asked if I would like to try theirs, it was the perfect opportunity to bite the bullet and try the sparkling tea drink.
Booch and Brew are based in Dunham Massey, up near Altrincham so are super local to Manchester. Emma and Kenny set up the brewery after falling in love with kombucha last year and they have now reached the limits of their current equipment so have launched a kickstarter, so they can bring their latest flavours to the public. Whilst they have hit their target of £10,000, the kickstarter is still running and there are some incredible discounts to be had. Kombucha is a sparkling fermented tea drink, which is then delicately flavoured with fruit and spices. Tea is sweetened with natural cane sugar before a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast is added before being fermented for up to 3 weeks. It is then flavoured with fruit, herbs and spices before being bottled and made available to you to enjoy. It is naturally low in sugar and really good for your gut health, thanks to the antioxidants, friendly bacteria and immune boosting vitamins.
The result is a pleasant sparkling drink that is much better for you that other fizzy drinks on the market. It genuinely tastes like sparkling iced tea and I thought it would be much more pungent than it is. The strawberry and pineapple was my favourite with a light tartness but the pineapple flavour pulling through.
