Finding brunch in the Stockport area can be tough. We went out a few weeks ago and visited the Turves Road Cafe that the locals have been raving about for quite some time. It was nice, quite a small setting though and with the amount of people recommending it I would worry about getting a table on weekends. Luckily for us there is a new brunch star in town, welcome to the party Gusto Cheadle Hulme.
Amazingly this was the first time I had visited Gusto in Cheadle Hulme and I have lived in this area for most of my life. The venue is large and light, thanks to the floor to ceiling windows all along one side. Decor is simple yet chic and you won’t feel out of place no matter what your style or group.
Settled at a window seat we perused the brunch menu which is available Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 12pm. You will find classic dishes such as Eggs Benedict and a Full English as well as an impressive cocktail list and some healthy smoothies to boot. This is where we started.
We chose vegetable smoothies although you wouldn’t guess is from the bright red colour of the one on the right! Here we have Broccoli and the Beast and Heart-Beet. The Broccoli and the Beast contains broccoli, spinach, celery, mango, banana and pineapple. The pineapple adds the sweetness this needs to take away the earthy taste that most green juices have and it totally works. It has a lovely freshness and, had it not been so cold, I would have guzzled this down in record time. The Heart-Beet was just as tasty with beetroot providing the vivid red colour and the carrot and mango adding a little earthiness yet a fresh smooth taste.
Onto the food and I chose to go light with the Toasted Seed Bloomer topped with Figs and Goats Cheese. My friend chose the Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon. Price wise they were very reasonable at just £5.95 and £7.95. My toast was warm with a light crust without being too ‘toasted’. The simple topping of goats cheese and figs had been drizzled with a tiny bit of honey which enhanced the sweetness of the figs whilst not taking away from the beautiful creamy goats cheese. The Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon was a decent sized portion with 2 thick slices of salmon topped with creamy and soft eggs atop the same toasted seed bloomer I had chosen. My friend is incredibly fussy yet polished off the lot and his only complaint was that he could have eaten more. I would take that as a positive.
I have now visited the majority of the Gusto Restaurats and I think Cheadle Hulme is my favourite. It is relaxed and chilled out whilst being light and bright, perfect for watching the world go by with a decent up of coffee. I will definitely pop in for dinner soon, it is so close it would be rude not to. Shall I save you a seat?
We dined as guests of Gusto and were not asked to pay for our food or drinks.
