You may remember I wrote about aloe vera drinks and their listed health benefits some time ago. You can read it here if you missed it first time around but I pointed out that, although there are many claimed health benefits to aloe vera drinks, they also contain a hefty amount of sugar. So when Grace Foods contacted me to try their aloe vera drinks I wasn’t expected any different.
Like the Alo drinks the Grace Foods Aloe Refresh is made from aloe vera gel so you will see the same floating bits of gel within the drink. These taste a little bit like jelly but are not unpleasant in the slightest. The bits in this version are smaller than those in the Alo so this may be a better option for those who don’t like this feature of the drink. The Grace version is lighter on calroies too at just 80 per bottle and the sugar content is much lower at 12 grams per 500ml bottle. It still seems a lot to me!
The mango variety is incredibly sweet and has a fruity flavour although it doesn’t really taste of mango to me, it is more just a generic sweet fruit flavour. It tastes ok but I’m still not sure it warrants the 12g of sugar it contains, I would much rather save that for something more satisfying.
The sugar is further enhanced with the addition of sweeteners, surely something that isn’t needed when sugar is also involved, surely you only need one or the other?
In summary I think I prefer the taste of the Alo juice drinks but I am still not sold on them overall. Have you tried any others that I need to look into?
Grace Foods Aloe Refresh is available widely in most supermarkets retailing at around £1 per bottle.
