My prediction is that most people have their own tried and tested bolognaise recipe. Before Slimming World I used to be happy with a jar of Dolmio Light and mince but this would use far too many of my savoured syns… what’s the point in using up fat and calories when you can make something equally as delicious from scratch? AND it’s easy to do. I’ve battled with various bits of vegetable and differing quantities of herb. What do I do now? Buy what is easiest for me and let it simmer away to loveliness. I’ve not put measures, give it a taste and alter to your own tastes.
Pasta Bolognaise (we don’t like the mess of spaghetti so always have pasta and usually it is fusilli)
Extra lean mince (I use turkey as it is lowest in fat and a good source of protein)
Chopped onions (I use frozen for speed)
Chopped mixed peppers (Again frozen for speed)
Chopped mixed vegetables (Guess what… yep, frozen!)
Minced garlic
Chopped fresh chilli
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 carton passata (sieved tomatoes)
Splash of balsamic vinegar
Shake of the following … Dried Italian herbs, Onion salt, Celery salt, Sea salt
I use frylight to brown the onions with the garlic and chilli then add the meat making sure it is browned all over before chucking in the rest of the ingredients and leaving it to simmer away. My little secret is to make sure the mixture is pretty thick with no watery residue on top to make sure there is no ‘wet’ puddle at the bottom of the bowl when served. I serve with a sprinkle of reduced fat cheese (Cathedral City Mature yet Mellow Lighter is my personal favourite) as my healthy extra A option. Apart from that this dish is syn free 🙂 Enjoy x
I’m back to the gym tomorrow for the first time since holiday… something tells me this may hurt! Will update then. Please feel free to share your changes to this recipe and how you like your bolognaise.

I always use turkey mince too nowadays, but I never thought to try celery salt to season a bolognese. Will definitely give it a try!
Know just what you mean about setting a target to lose weight for, then putting it back on once getting there. I’m trying to shift some baby weight now, but the difference is that I’m not doing it for a holiday that’s booked, or to get in a particular outfit. This time, I’m doing it for ME- and it feels so much better that way 🙂
Good luck, and I’m only a text away if you need any support xx
Thanks hon, I’m doing it for exactly the same reasons this time… ME and I’ll be mithering you by text too xx
