Last night saw the opening of a new bar in Manchester… The Liquor Store is a little place tucked away at the junction of Blackfriars Street and The Parsonage below the Maybrook House building. It’s not far from the hustle and bustle of Deansgate but delightfully relaxing.
The décor is dark and candlelit with plenty of comfy areas to sit and peruse the loaded cocktail menu. There is a big nod towards the Manchester music scene and the cocktail menus are themed around different album artwork from Manchester’s greats.

Speaking of that cocktail menu, it is vast and wonderfully quirky with offerings such as the Reverse Thyme Mojito and the Salford Cide-Kick. Speaking to our efficient waitress we opted for a Jennings Cox Daiquiri and a Rye Port Cobbler. She recommended the daiquiri from experience and said she would like to try the cobbler so was interested to hear what it tasted like.

The Jennings Cox Daiquiri is a twist on the traditional rum drink named after the creator of the drink himself and a hefty nod to his apple name. It is made with Havana 3 year old, fresh lime and sugar syrup, but the winner here is the amazing apple froth and apple crisps served on top. Sweet, crisp and delightfully fruity this cocktail is an absolute delight. A sprinkle of cinnamon on top gave it a nice spicy twist.
The Rye Cobbler is made with muddled fruit shaken with rye whiskey and port, a touch of maraschino all balanced with lemon and sugar. And balance it does, the sugar cuts through the whiskey and port perfectly. Laced with a cherry, chunk of pineapple and slice of orange, this place goes to town making sure that their cocktails not only taste delicious but look the part too.
The only downfall at the Liquor Store is their location. It is hidden away and, unless you are looking for it, I’m worried you might miss it. That said, you will all be looking for it now won’t you 😉
This experience was paid for.
