When I started weight training for fat loss I cut carbs massively out of my diet. I found this type of eating benefited me massively and I saw amazing results. The good thing is the days that I trained I would eat more carbs to support my body and top up my glycogen stores. Whilst I have been no where near as strict with my eating in the last few months, I find after I have been to the gym or for a run, a bowl of pasta makes me feel a million times better. For me there is no where better for quick pasta dishes than Vapiano and they are keen to prove to you that carbs aren’t the enemy when it comes to trying to eat healthier. So keen in fact that they have got together with registered dietician and nutritionalist Dr Sarah Schenker to chose dishes that are perfect for people who run or train regularly, balancing carbs and protein in a tasty way.
The Pasta Gamberetti contains fresh pasta with large and plump prawns for a hit of low fat protein and tomatoes to deliver beta carotene which boost immunity.
The Pasta Bolognaise uses the same fresh pasta to top up those glycogen stores with beef for high quality protein and iron which helps to transport oxygen to the red blood cells.
Not on the diet plan, I chose the soup to start as it was a particularly miserable day in Manchester and I needed something warming before I picked my main. This also topped up my beta carotene levels further so I felt practically virtuous eating it. It’s thick, piping hot with that comforting sweet tomato taste and a kick of basil. I really enjoyed it and will start all my meals at Vapiano with this in the future.
Vapiano is becoming a real hit amongst my friends especially my onion hating friend who really struggles to eat at other Italians in Manchester as they add onion to everything. Here he can watch his food being cooked and ask for them to be omitted. Watching it being cooked means he knows 100% that not a slither has found its way into his dish.
I hope this post has proved that carbs aren’t the enemy and when eaten as part of a balanced diet, they can also aid your training immensely. There’ll be no more ‘hitting the wall’ for me with Vapiano in town!
Whilst I’ve got you on the subject of Vapiano they are also running an Instagram competition.Take a picture in the restaurant and tag it #MyVapiano for your chance to win £1000. If you are there after your workout anyway, what have you got to lose?
I was invited for review purposes and not asked to pay for my food although I feel I have to stress that I eat here on a regular basis and always pay in full.

Nice that they cook it in front of you, one I should visit with my pickier friends. I tend to eat everything and love onions and lots of garlic in my italian!
I’m going here next week to take part in the campaign too- I can’t wait!
