Feeding Ferguson With Hills Science Plan

Whilst the majority of the posts I write for my blog are about human food, food for my border collie Ferguson is also really important to me. When he was a puppy he had a sensitive stomach and it was clear that his energy was not evenly spread out throughout the day, as it should be. I have managed to get to a really good balance recently and he has been enjoying a new food to him, from Hills Science Plan.

Hill’s Science Plan is a veterinary approved food for pets that is scientifically formulated to meet their needs, according to their biology. There are a number of options and I chose the sensitive stomach variety to prevent any of the concerns that I had from when he was a puppy. Hill’s only use high quality ingredients in their food to make sure your pet is getting the best for their needs.

Reviewing a dog food is actually difficult as I obviously cannot attest to its taste or the flavour! What I can tell you is there is a Velcro closing on the bag, which is really handy for freshness and is a lot easier to close than the click close bags you usually see. The kibble pieces are fairly small and very crunchy, which helps to slow down feeding and the risks involved when dogs eat too quickly. Whilst I can’t tell you what it tastes like, I can tell you that Ferguson chomped his way through his first bowl happily, and has continued to do so at each feed. This is more positive than you may initially think as Ferguson is not a food influenced dog at all. He eats, but will leave food in his bowl if he isn’t hungry, doesn’t like it or just doesn’t feel like it.

Thankfully changing him to Hill’s Science Plan food has not changed his energy levels, which is what I was worried about. His energy is consistent throughout the day rather than him having peaks or doing zoomies when he has too much stored energy to burn. Without being too graphic, Hill’s Science Plan hasn’t messed with his stomach sensitivity either, which certainly makes my life cleaner and easier.

Overall I am pleased with Hill’s Science Plan as a dry dog food for Ferguson, and judging by the speed he gets to his bowl when he hears the bag opening, I think he is too!
