We have seen a fair few food boxes graze our halls during this pandemic and there has been some real gems, that I hope continues as we start to eat out again. The variety of cuisines on any budget has been remarkable and no less remarkable, is the food box from Barfi Catering.
As you can probably tell by the name, Barfi Catering offer a catering service specialising in a variety of cuisines for events, but predominantly Indian food. They can cater large or small for your future parties, weddings or business meetings with freshly made, aromatic food that is delivered directly to you.
They have also been providing food boxes to feed 3-4 people, which is a lovely option instead of a greasy mass produced takeaway. There are meat or vegetarian options including a dessert, which so many people miss and is a must in my opinion.
Most of the packaging is cardboard so fully recyclable when washed and helps to reheat if you have any left! There is a lovely array of options included so there should be something for everyone around the table to enjoy. The Chicken Seekh Kebab has a lovely kick of delicate spice and the meat is soft and juicy. You can tell they aren’t mass produced by the chunks of chilli and herbs running through them, just delicious. The Daal Makhani was also incredibly good, and a dahl is not something I would usually rave out. This one is rich and creamy; perfect for scooping up with the huge fresh naan that is included.
The Chicken Tikka has a proper punch of heat, which isn’t something I am used to with a tikka but it was lovely with large pieces of chicken that remained soft and flavourful. My absolute favourite dish was the Lemon Chicken. Lots of garlic and preserved lemons with a light dressing of sauce, which doesn’t overpower the coated chicken and adds just enough sweetness. It was absolutely delicious and I would order it again, on its own, by the bucketload.
There’s a salad of pasta, quinoa, salad leaves and cherry tomatoes to add a touch of freshness and to lighten up your feast, before hitting that dessert.
I think most people who know me know that I am a sucker for dessert. I wish I could have dessert as a starter, as I would rather not miss out! Included in my Barfi Catering food box was a slice of ‘Cookie Dough’. I’m not sure it is really what I would call cookie dough, more a slice of gooey cake with chunks of firmer cake and chocolate inside then drizzled with chocolate. Served warm, the chocolate drizzled is melted and just delightful. It looks like a small slice but it is very rich.
Sliced in two with some ice cream, it is the perfect ending to the meal from Barfi Catering, which I think should feed 2 people fairly well. If you are feeding more, I think you would need some rice and potentially more cake, which is never a bad thing.
