I know World Gin Day was last month and that is ages ago now, but it was such a busy week for me that I am still trying to catch up. Luckily for you, today’s post is all about a particular gin that is still available for you to enjoy, and it’s an exciting one!
The Bay Horse Tavern in the Northern Quarter have collaborated with Portobello Road gin to create their own unique blend, that is only available at the bar. Being a London dry, it is juniper heavy, but the botanicals have been chosen to reflect the pub itself which I think is a lovely touch. Bay leaf and dried hay give the gin some serious clout whilst the orange adds a little sweetness to round out the flavour. It is surprisingly smooth for a juniper heavy gin but one that really excels in a decent martini.
The Martini here with Cochi Americano is delicious and there is almost an oiliness from the gin which mixes into the perfectly classic martini. No frills, just the way it should be.
The perfect serve G&T adds a bay leaf and a dried slice of orange to enhance the flavours of the botanicals and brings out the freshness of the gin with a slight sweet finish.
It really is a good gin and you can either buy it in a drink from the bar, or bag yourself a bottle to take home. It’ll cost you £30, which is reasonable for a decent bottle of gin if you ask me. I can’t wait for more bars to create their own house spirits, it looks like it is a trend that is starting to happen and I am all here for it.
THE DEETS

I was invited to the launch of the Bay Horse Tavern gin and was not asked to pay for my drinks.
