I have really been humbled by the amount of people who have been supporting the vulnerable during this pandemic. From my local coffee shop feeding our key workers, to neighbours setting up Facebook groups to feed those isolating, I feel we have really pulled together to try and support those who need it most. Meals For All are a not for profit organisation who formed at the start of the pandemic to do exactly that.
Meals For All launched in March 2020, just as we entered lockdown and the pandemic spread across the UK. They have partnered with award winning chefs to create your favourite Indian dishes, that are delivered directly to your door. For every meal purchased, Meals For All provide another meal for the vulnerable free of charge. It really is that simple. They kindly sent me their range to try so I thought I would share the options with you.
The main curry dishes are ones you know and love from your local takeaway. Pop them in your oven or microwave, and in no time you have a takeaway ready to enjoy. The lamb rogan josh was my favourite. Tender pieces of lamb in a thick, lightly spiced sauce the same as I would get from my local takeaway. I also really enjoyed the chicken jalfrezi, which was spicier and brimming with chunks of moist chicken. The chicken korma was creamy and rich, as you would expect with the butternut squash and spinach a fragrant, delicious vegan alternative.
Meals For All also have a selection of curry pots, which are all in one meals that are perfect for lunchtime. A layer of quinoa and lentils are topped with your favourite curry sauce. I really enjoyed the chicken jalfrezi version and loved the quinoa/lentil alternative to rice.
There is a selection of Indian starters available too! My favourite was the chicken samosas that are a bit different to the minced beef or vegetable that you usually see available. The onion bhajis are a decent size although a little dry for me. This might be because they are pre made and heated by you in your own kitchen. Next time, I’d fry them off in a little oil, which I think would add back in the moisture.
Something totally different to anything I’ve ordered before from an Indian takeaway are the ‘curry in a naan’ snacks. Your favourite curry is generously filled in a plain naan, ready for you to heat in the oven or microwave and eat. The packaging says to microwave but I found they went a little soggy this way, the oven is definitely the way to go. It means the naan crisps up nicely and the curry inside is fragrant and chunky.
You can add on naan breads and rice, ready for the ultimate Indian feast at home, all in the knowledge that you are supporting our key workers and vulnerable people at the same time. It is such a great initiative and I can’t wait to place my next order.
You can order on the Meals for All website.
