I continue on my quest to look and feel better in myself and had a major wobble this week. I got on the scales at home and, to my horror, weighed in at the same weight I was when I was at my biggest. I know it isn’t the same. Physically I am smaller than I was then as I have continued to go to the gym despite my horrific eating habits. That said I really don’t like the way I look at the moment and the number on the scales tipped me over the edge. I panicked, I cried. I even considered doing something I told myself I never would, go back to a diet club or try a food restriction diet. Then I gave my head a wobble, pulled myself together, and carried on. At the same time I was contacted by Nutribuddy asking I fancied giving their weight loss starter kit a go, clearly this was meant to be and my parcel arrived shortly after.
Nutribuddy are a Manchester based company which clearly has instant appeal for me. The kit consists of a 14 day supply of sculpting whey, a shaker bottle, multi vitamins and hunger fix tablets as well as some useful books with recipes and weight loss tips to use alongside the products.
Now I stick by my ‘rule’ that replacing real food is not the best way to lose weight, that said, I will regularly grab a protein shake as a quick breakfast or snack so switching to Nutribuddy’s sculpting whey isn’t really any different. The fomula contains green tea and guarana as well as whey protein for more energy and to burn fat at a faster rate. Now I have some issues with these claims and would urge anyone considering taking supplements like these to do some research to make sure you are happy with the ingredients and how these may affect your body. Guarana contains twice the amount of caffeine you can find in coffee meaning you may suffer some side effects depending on your overall health. I promise I am not preaching but be mindful that this addition may not work for you.
The sculpting whey is available in either chocolate or vanilla so I chose vanilla because I find the chocolate varieties of protein can be very powdery. I also find vanilla works better with fruit or when used to make protein pancakes but that is all down to personal preference. Sculpting whey contains just 115 calories per serving making it one of the lowest calorie options out there at the moment. I find it very difficult to mix and the best way was in my Nutri Ninja so it blended properly with no residue. I filled the bottle halfway with water and found this really watery, more like a flavoured water than a shake in consistency. For this reason I mixed mine with frozen berries and almond milk, I found it much more palatable this way. The vanilla flavour isn’t overly sweet which I like and find it complements other flavours well. With a low sugar content yet 22 grams of protein I am really enjoying using this in place of my regular protein in pancakes and flapjacks, I would definitely buy it.
The Multi Vitamins are a decent all-rounder containing the majority of your recommended daily allowance (RDA). For restoring muscles I would have liked to see more than 20% RDA of magnesium but I take these at night time separately anyway so it isn’t a big issue. I have been taking these every day and haven’t seen a difference although I don’t think a 14 day period is long enough to see a noticeable difference anyway.
The Hunger Fix tablets are designed to be taken before eating to suppress appetite and make you feel fuller using konjac fibre. Now I may be strange but I actually like the feeling of being hungry, I like knowing that my body has used its energy and is ready to be refuelled. In the same breath I am not a fan of feeling full, it makes me feel heavy and bloated, the last thing I want to feel when trying to lose weight. I don’t tend to overeat when I feel hungry, I tend to overeat when I feel sad, so these don’t really work for me but I can see how they would work for people who overeat when they feel hungry so by all means do give them a go if you fit in this category.
The shaker bottle is my favourite thing in the kit. I chose a red one but there is also a black option. They are BPA free so don’t have that weird plasticky smell that many do. They have a ball whisk to help mix your shake but also a detachable lid making it much easier to drink from and clean! There is a handy strap as well which is perfect for using on the go and I have been using this for all my shakes and smoothies, I will definitely be stockpiling them!
The 14 day supply costs just £24.99 which I think is a great price to try it and see how you get on. I didn’t see a massive difference on the scales, no different to what would have been normal for my eating and exercising habits but then I am already on track with my eating and exercising. As a kick start you may have different results and I would love to hear them, make sure you let me know how you get on with it!
