I am incredibly disorganised at the best of times. I try so hard when I am 100% in the zone with my healthy eating plan but when I’m not I find it really hard to find something to just pick up on the go. It is incredibly frustrating and I hope supermarkets start to stock more healthy food in the future. Upbeat got in contact and asked if I fancied trying their protein drinks which you can buy in most supermarkets. I’d not even tried them and I was excited already! Could they be the start of the changes I need to see in supermarkets?
Upbeat dairy protein drinks are really hard to find in the supermarket. I had walked up and down the aisles 3 times before admitting defeat and asking an assistant for help. They are with the probiotic type drinks, just so you know if you go looking for them!
Upbeat’s motto is ‘a little bit of extra willpower’. With 20g they pack a fairly hefty protein punch that should get you through the mid afternoon slump where you think about reaching for the biscuit tin. The protein in question is whey which is a great choice and certainly better than others on the market, I may bore you with this topic in a later post.
With just 146 calories and half the sugar of most fruit smoothies they come in three different flavours. The low sugar means they aren’t overly sweet and this is certainly welcomed although I am not a fan of them adding artificial sweeteners to enhance the flavours, I’d rather they use more fruit for a more natural sugar. The brand isn’t necessarily marketed at the fitness industry so this isn’t sold as a protein drink for supporting exercise but I had one before a particularly strenuous gym session and it did give me that hit I sometimes need from a high protein intake to get through.
So whilst I don’t think I would advocate these as a workout product as such they aren’t bad for a quick pick me up if you are desperate for something mid morning or afternoon. They are £1.79 each so a little bit pricier than the chocolate bar you have been coveting but they will keep you fuller for longer, I had one at breakfast time and couldn’t finish my lunch as they had kept me that full!
