Three Fitness Experiences To Try This Summer

Summer is the perfect time to try a new workout. The sun is out and it’s bikini season, so why not spice up your exercise routine a little? Going to the gym every day can be boring, so take your exercise outside and enjoy the beautiful weather while you can. Here are some fun summertime activities to challenge your sporty side:

1

Marathons

Running. You love it or you hate it. But no matter how you feel about it, marathons are a great way to stay in shape and get outdoors. If you aren’t a big fan of running, start with a 5k, 10k or half marathon and work your way up. Be sure to follow a training schedule, know your limits, and listen to your body. REI has a great plan to help you get started. And even if you aren’t ready for a full or half marathon by the end of the summer, you will be in great shape and ready to tackle one soon.

To make your runs a little more fun, make your smartphone your perfect running buddy. Bring your favourite workout playlist, podcasts or audio books along with you for the jog. If you build up your stamina and are able to run for a long period of time, you need a phone that can keep up with you. The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a bigger and better battery life, so you don’t need to worry about your phone slowing you down.

Obstacle Races

Entering into an obstacle race is the perfect summer challenge for your fitness. You’re guaranteed to get a little wet and dirty, so you might as well try it when the weather is warm. The great thing about obstacle races is that there are so many to choose from. The Warrior Dash, Spartan Race and Tough Mudder are some of the most popular ones, but there are many smaller obstacle course races that you can find by doing some research on your local area.

Training for an obstacle race can be a bit difficult, but you should start with running. You need to build up a lot of endurance to make it through. To work on some of the muscles you aren’t used to using, practice common ways to push through obstacles, such as crawling or climbing, to get your body used to those actions.

Water Sports

Enjoying the ocean, lakes and rivers is one of the best parts of summer. While lounging by the water is relaxing and fun, why not throw a little exercise in there? There are many water sports to choose from, including kayaking, swimming and kite boarding. Take a look at Buzzle”s list to see the range of activities that are available at this time of year. The first thing to decide may be whether you want to do a solitary or team water sport. For example, surfing is a great solo activity whereas rafting is fun to do with a group.
