‘Try’ of the Week: Vivesoy Vanilla Soy Drink Review and a Simple Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

You may remember me talking about using Teapigs Matcha green tea powder which I have been having in my morning smoothies. I’ve been keeping them up and am quite proud that I have been getting out of bed that little bit earlier to make them! Most people use milk or water as their liquid element but I really struggle with dairy at times and plain water just does nothing for me. I usually go for almond milk as I find it really does give a creamy full fat taste without the calories or dairy so when I was sent some Vivesoy vanilla soy drink to review, I wasn’t expecting it to do much for me.

Vivesoy is a Spanish product and has been the leading soy drink of choice in the country for the last decade. It launched in the UK just over 12 months ago with the aim to, not only increase the number of people in the UK benefiting from soy drink’s health attributes, but also to put the drink on the map in terms of taste. Let’s face it, some soy drinks are just plain nasty. I remember buying a carton and trying to use it in the place of milk when I was being too lazy to venture out for a fresh pint. It completely put me off and I haven’t bought the product since.

Vivesoy have launched a range of different flavours from light and unsweetened to flavoured drinks including chocolate and cappuccino. I went for the vanilla flavour drink as I figured it would give my smoothie a different taste to plain soy flavour. One thing I will tell you is it tastes just as creamy as almond milk, a real bonus for me. It makes my smoothie taste naughtier than it actually is and also gives it a lovely sweetness that I would only usually get from adding honey or sugar, without the calories. Another huge bonus!

Not only does Vivesoy soy drink taste good, it also has lots of health benefits to compliment my current healthy living plan. A 250g glass contains 7.5 protein, it is low in saturated fat yet contains omega 3 and 6 from the good fats and for only 112 calories. Best of all? It doesn’t have that horrid taste the last soy drink I tried had and this can genuinely be used as a replacement for milk. I’m looking forward to trying overnight oats with it this week!

You can buy Vivesoy drinks from Tesco for £1.20 per litre. If you fancy giving it a try, here is my tried and tested smoothie recipe. I’ve struggled for months to get the right balance of fruit to liquid and this seems to work best for me. Let me know what you think!

 Keeley’s daily fruit smoothie – Serves 1

100g blueberries – frozen
100g raspberries – frozen
½ ripe banana
½ teaspoon Teapigs Matcha green tea powder
300g Vivesoy vanilla flavour drink or almond milk

Method

I use a 2go blender so the blades are in the lid of the blender. Make sure you add the frozen fruits to where the blades are going to be so they whizz properly! I break the banana into 3-4 pieces and add to the jug before adding the Matcha, then the frozen fruits, then the soy drink/almond milk. Whizz on high until completely blended and drink.

The frozen fruits cool down the drink and thicken it up to give a milkshake type consistency. What failsafe recipe do you use?
