‘Try’ of the Week: Twist Cocktails

Ever been sat at home of an evening in your pjs and thought, ‘I could murder a cocktail right now?’ You don’t want the fuss of going out especially if it involves getting dressed but you also don’t have the supplies needed to shake up a decent drink. This happens to me a lot but it Is usually the mixers I am short on!

Twist Cocktails are a fairly new company who have spied a gap in the ever growing monthly subscription box trade and created one for cocktails! Not just any mind; all you need to mix the perfect cocktail including top quality spirits. I was lucky enough to win a Manhattan kit through Twitter and thought I’d  give it to my friends at Tusk bar to play with whilst I am not a whiskey fan. Whilst this may sound like a cop out on my part (they are professional bartenders after all) I am rubbish when it comes to anything like this and the different components did need measuring out which would have ended in disaster if I had attempted it. I also thought it would be interesting to get an expert opinion on the kit and its contents.

The kits are packed in sturdy black and white packaging stuffed with shredded black paper to keep the glass bottles safe in transit.

Inside each box is all you will need to make 4 cocktails and a recipe sheet with different variations on the recipe. It is a little bit like origami trying to unfold the menu and I chuckled at two grown men trying to get it back in its original shape!

Pretending like they had never made a Manhattan before the Tusk lads went to town making both the dry and sweet versions from the recipe booklet provided trying desperately not to veer off track and add their own spin.

In hindsight I’m pretty sure I could have made these cocktails myself as they are the stirred kind and not shaken. I had nearly eaten all the cherries before the cocktail was served and had to have my hand slapped away on several occasions.

As expected both drinks were far too strong for me and the addition of some orange zest certainly helped the sweet variety be more to my taste. There were nods of approval elsewhere though and lots of comments about what a good idea the boxes are.
