When it comes to the ‘new year, new you’ hype, I am usually firmly on the band wagon. Not because I think a new year is necessarily the time to make changes that I won’t stick to, more as I like to set myself some goals that keep things on track for the rest of the year. I review them regularly to make sure I they remain positive and achievable, I have set so many resolutions in the past and totally beat myself up when I’ve not been able to stick to them.
A big thing this year for many is Veganuary. Going vegan for a month is difficult for many and, although it isn’t a new thing, there is much more out there in terms of options and awareness in 2019. The problem with Veganuary, for me, is that is it 1 month. I think it is great that people are trying it, I hope that some of those people continue with veganism in some capacity beyond January. For me, that is why I am not doing Veganuary this year, but I am doing something.
I knew if I said I was doing Veganuary, I was likely to fail. The first two months of this year are dedicated to getting my dissertation handed in and anything else on top of that stress just isn’t possible. That said, I am making changes. I am more aware than ever of where my food comes from and what I eat. Once the dissertation is done I will definitely be spending more time on this and choosing vegan choices where I can, both for my health and for the good of the planet.
To help me, Herbalife Nutrition have released a range of vegan products. The Healthy Meal shakes that I regularly have for breakfast now include a caffe latte flavour, which has a light and creamy coffee taste without being overly sweet. I didn’t realise the banana cream flavour is also vegan so there are a few options to choose for a vegan diet. The oat apple fibre is a really good way to get more fibre into your diet, something that may be missing if you are new to eating vegan and concentrating on what you can eat rather than the vitamins and minerals your body also needs. It is really easy to use and when you add a scoop to your morning shake, it just becomes part of your daily routine.
The instant herbal drinks are something that I have regularly used from the Herbalife Nutrition range. I’m not a huge fan of tea but these are fruitier than herbal teas and contain more caffeine to fuel my day without excessive amounts of creamy, sugary coffee.
The vegan range tastes no different to the normal range which is great news for meat eaters who want to make a simple change to help reduce the consumption of animals. Whilst I can’t guarantee that I will be able to completely eliminate animal products from my life, I am going to make an effort to eat vegan at least once a week. That is more than Veganuary on its own and, hopefully, it’ll get easier to plan and it’ll happen more. God knows, we need to be making simple changes to help our planet and this is one of them.
