Bottomless Brunching With A Difference At Foodwell

You all know I love a bottomless brunch. I am still on a mission to find all the best ones in Manchester and I think todays is one of the best yet…. let me introduce you to Foodwell’s offering.

Foodwell has combined food and wellness in its LA inspired space, complete with a yoga studio, health food deli and juice bar. The interior is light and bright with lots of greenery to add a cosy yet sophisticated feel. They have a varied menu with lots of vegan options as well as healthy bites that won’t spoil your healthy eating plan. I was kindly invited to try their new brunch menu and, unlike other options in the City, you can choose an alcohol or juice version.

You didn’t think I’d go alcohol free surely? The ‘retox’ brunch option includes bottomless drinks with a choice of 3 different mimosas, prosecco, beer or a choice of bloody marys. If you prefer something less boozy, the ‘detox’ option has 5 different juice blends for you to choose from.

Moving onto the menu, you choose a small plate, a large plate and a health food shot. There are sweet or savoury, healthy or more naughty options including vegan plates to satisfy most diners. I have not seen such a great selection and such an innovative brunch in the city, and I have been saying for a long time that restaurants need to put more effort into the food. There is often a 2 hour bottomless drink option but with 1 plate of food, so often you are sat drinking for the majority of your visit. Here, the food is spread across the time making it the perfect spot to catch up with friends after a hard week in the office.

We kicked things off the healthy way and I chose the Hard Greens, which is a heady blend of kale, parsley, lime, celery and ginger. The ginger is at the front making it fairly spicy and not for the faint hearted! That said, it was a great palate cleanser and set me up well for the first course.

I chose the Savoury Ricotta Hot Cakes – fluffy hot cakes topped with crispy bacon, apple crunch, peanut butter and maple syrup. The hot cakes are lightly sweetened but not so much that it overpowers the dish. They are light and fluffy with good texture from the apple slices and added richness from the bacon. It’s a lovely dish and a great start to the food offering of the Foodwell retox brunch. It is also available as a sweet option with fruit so I’ll definitely give that a go next time I visit.

The big plate that caught my eye was the Steak And Eggs. Flat iron steak is served with wilted spinach, scrambled eggs and Korean spiced ketchup. The steak is soft with no visible fat and the ketchup has a lovely kick for a touch of spice to make things that little bit more interesting. The majority of the table ordered the Aussie Beach Breakfast, with halloumi and avocado, which is a definite must if you like the avo life.

I sipped all 3 of the mimosa options with the rose and goji being my favourite. Just a hint of floral from rose gin is always welcome, especially on a Sunday lunch time with live music and the sun shining overhead.

If you are after more variety in an instagrammable setting, Foodwell is well worth a visit. The brunch has lots of options and the outdoor seating area is just perfect for when the sun is shining. I totally get that it feels like the sun will never shine again at the moment but I promise, the Foodwell brunch will brighten up your day.
