If you have read my blog before you will know I am a fan of Vapiano. If you are a friend in ‘real life’ you will know I am an uber fan who is always frequenting both the Manchester and London restaurants when I am in the vicinity. So imagine my excitement when they introduced a cocktail menu, and not only that, some come in at under £5 each. Surely they can’t be good for that price? I went along, for research purposes you understand, to try them out.
The menu is small but perfectly formed with drinks for all palates and tastes. There are a number of Vapiano twists on the menu but you will also find the classics on there. It would be rude not to try both to decide which you prefer and I did exactly that with the classic Aperol Spritz and the Vapiano Spritz, purely for research you understand. I am not a fan of Aperol in general and I find it far too bitter most of the time. The classic is just that for me although this tastes the same as other Aperol Spritz cocktails I have had in the past. The Vapiano twist adds gin and rhubarb syrup which adds a touch of sweetness and rounds out that bitter aftertaste usually present with an Aperol cocktail. I would happily order this again and it is the perfect summer in the sun drink to sip.
The Mai Tai was an instant hit and is one of my favourite cocktails anyway, being a fan of rum. Havana white and dark rums and mixed with Grand Marnier, orange, pineapple and lime before being garnished with a hunk of pineapple. Whilst there is a lot of fruit in this cocktail, the spirit components work beautifully for a lovely alcohol hit that had me stealing others from around the table.
The Long Island Iced Tea is not a drink for me as, despite my addiction to diet coke, I am not a fan of coke flavours with alcohol. Containing Russian Standard, Grand Marnier, Tanqueray, Havana white and lemon topped with coke – the general consensus amongst our group was that this needed a little more citrus to be a classic Long Island Iced Tea although most enjoyed it as is.
You’d be daft not to try a plate of antipasti with your cocktails and the mozzarella here is amongst some of the best I have tasted, as I have told you in previous posts.
There is an impressive happy hour with 2 for the price of 1 on selected drinks every weekday between 4pm-7pm. With an ample outdoor seating area that gets the sun of an evening in summer, I am pretty sure you won’t want to give it a miss.
I was invited to try the cocktails at Vapiano as a guest and was not asked to pay for my drinks
