Prosecco is one of my favourite things. I mean, this weather is just perfect for a chilled glass of the fizzy stuff whilst sitting in the sunshine. Whilst prosecco is my drink of choice, I really love giving it a new lease of life with different flavours. That could be juice, gin, liqueur. The world is my oyster! My latest favourite is the Hedgepigs Fruit Gin Liqueurs. Let me introduce you…
Hedgepig is a creation by the Pinkster gin team and is made using fruit foraged, or locally grown in orchards around East Anglia. There are four different flavours in the range – wild bullage and quince, Cambridge gage, gooseberry and elderflower.
The elderflower liqueur is the latest flavour to join the range and is also the strongest, being 29.8% abv. 50p from each bottle sold is donated to the British Hedgehog Appreciation Society. It is unlike any other fruit gin liqueur I have tried in that it isn’t as sweet as most. It is light and floral with citrus notes that works so well when topped with prosecco. It is also delicious served straight up over ice.
I wouldn’t usually drink a gin liqueur with tonic but this one has a great abv to stand up to a mixer and the strong fruit flavours don’t get overwhelmed by the tonic at all. I can’t wait to try it in some baking.
