Keeping Ferguson comfy is a key, especially since our latest vet visit highlighted some potential issues with his hips. Whilst I wait for consultant’s appointments, I’ve been giving him joint supplements and was kindly sent a new bed for him to sleep on. Let me show you the Project Blu range.
Project Blu are an eco friendly company who make their dog beds from recycled bottles that have been retrieved from the ocean, rivers, beaches and landfill. This plastic is collected from some of the world’s poorest coastal communities and prevents around 41 1.5 litre bottles from polluting our environment, per dog bed. In fact, the extra large bed I received for Ferguson was made with at least 128 plastic bottles!
The result is a mattress style dog bed in a range of colours, with different designs around the side. This is the Goa mattress with a grey tyre design around the side. To be honest, the design doesn’t really matter to me as I always cover his bed with a fleecy throw. This is partly for extra warmth and comfort, but also to keep the bed as clean as possible. It is so much easier to chuck a few throws into the washing machine than trying to arrange for the whole bed to be washed! That said, the Project Blu mattress beds are fully machine washable so, if I need to, I do have that option. It also means that it should last a lot longer, meaning less dog beds ending up on the tip and in landfill.
I thought throwing out his old bed and replacing it would cause some confusion for my 4 year old Border Collie, but Ferguson jumped straight on and plonked himself down before I could even cover the Project Blu Goa Mattress Dog Bed with his throw. The extra large is the perfect size and he is fairly tall for his breed, so I think it would be good for other large sized breeds. It has a nice level of padding but does need a bit of a fluff every couple of days to distribute the filling.
Ferguson seems happy with it and happily sleeps each night on his new mattress dog bed. When it does need replacing, I’ll happily buy him a new one in the knowledge that I am doing that little bit extra for our planet.
