It has been a really weird week in Manchester. First we headed into tier 3 without the extra support that our mayor Andy Burnham had been campaigning for. Then the government voted against provided children with free meals during the term breaks. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like things are going to get better any time soon and as we head deeper into the colder months with Covid19 still whirling around us, we all need a treat. I’ve seen lots of treat boxes out there recently and Selene’s Bakery kindly sent me some goodies to try.
Selene’s Bakery is an online dessert shop creating sweet treats that can either be collected, delivered by post or hand delivered when ordering in the Manchester area. Obviously some desserts travel better than others so if you are outside of the Manchester area, you can order a box of brownies or bags of fudge to arrive on your doorstep. I tried both, just for you. Obviously.
Deliveries arrive in a sturdy cardboard box to keep the contents super secure.
The brownies are available in five different flavours; double chocolate, chocolate orange, nutella, white chocolate or biscoff. You can mix and match flavours and the box can hold six or nine large slices. When I say large, they really are on the generous size and one piece is more than enough with a brew of an afternoon. They are more cake like than gooey brownie but, in terms of freshness this means they last longer. I can’t begin to imagine the mess that gooey brownies would make in our postal system and these keep their shape and flavour beautifully. Something I appreciated as someone who lives alone, although they did not last long in my house.
Whilst the brownies are good, the piece de resistance is the fudge, oh my the fudge. Available in vanilla, vanilla oreo, chocolate or chocolate oreo, you will receive a generously sized bag of fudge pieces. I tried the vanilla oreo, which also has large chunks of oreo cookie throughout for a change of texture. The fudge is rich and creamy, so rich that one piece more than satisfies those sweet cravings. As with the brownies, the bag didn’t last long and I’ll need to place another order soon because I am craving that creamy deliciousness.
