With a stricter lockdown being discussed and pubs potentially being locked down sooner rather than later, zoom meetings with friends and virtual drinks are back on the agenda and The Liquorists have you covered.
The Liquorists are well known for their boozy adventures on the high seas of the Manchester Ship Canal but unfortunately that is all on hold due to Covid19. They have changed things around and are now running tastings from the safety of your own home, no life jackets required! You will find the same quirky themes such as Rum Runner’s Revenge (which I did on the boat last year) and this weekend I took part in their Gincident tasting.
The day before the tasting, my goodies arrived and it is such good value for money. There were 2 gin and tonics, 3 cocktails and all the accompanying garnishes to make your drinks look spot on at home. I also took advantage of the food option, which you can add on as an extra. It is a nice selection of good quality cheese, meats, crackers and pickles. It was such a lovely Saturday night treat and I was glad I added it on to enjoy whilst listening to the experts.
The evening kicked off with an introduction to our spirit of the hour, gin, and talked through why the garnishes had been chosen for our G&Ts before heading into the cocktails. The cocktails arrive in metal bottles, which are perfect to pop in the freezer for a little while ahead of the tasting to make them super cold. They are also really easy to prepare, you literally give them a hard shake and pour, so no extra equipment is needed.
The Clover Club is one of my cocktails of choice when in a bar so I really enjoyed it, but my favourite was the Blueberry and Elderflower Rocks. When drank with the parma violet garnish, it is so floral and fruity. I loved it!
I paired the Gin Pornstar with a prosecco shot, mainly because I had a bottle open in the fridge rather than it being a necessity, but it brought the cocktail to life.
The session online is around 90 minutes and you can join via Zoom, or watch on Facebook live if that is more your thing. It is a great evening and I have really missed the banter of bartenders, so it is a way to have a little bit of that buzz in your own home.
