Fitness Review – MyProtein Active Women Range

In terms of health and fitness I have fallen off the wagon in a major way. I haven’t been going to the gym due to having a cold and going through tests for asthma. For me the two go hand in hand and when I don’t go to the gym I get into the mindset of, ‘well I may as well eat whatever I want to’. This week I decided enough was enough and I am much more motivated to get back into fitness, albeit back at the very beginning, and get fitter.

I needed help. I have learned over my lifetime of fitness struggles that I can’t do this alone. So when MyProtein offered to send me some samples of their new women’s protein range I very nearly snapped their hands off.

I have tried MyProtein before (you can read about it here) and regularly rave about their vast selection of flavoured protein powders when friends ask for recommendations. Times are moving on and people don’t just want protein powders. They want on the go alternatives that also have a wide range of flavours. MyProtein have designed a range specifically for women to hit that very spot and boy, have they done it in style.

The Active Women range contains a blend of vitamins and minerals designed specifically for women also adding extra dietary fibre to aid digestion and vitamin C to reduce fatigue. They have chosen a simple white and purple design making it easily identifiable without going over the top ‘THIS IS FOR WOMEN’ with bright pinks that we are so used to seeing.

Pre workout is something I have never been a fan of and I find all the varieties I have tried in the past really sweet and overly processed. MyProtein have four flavours in the Active Women range and the peach tea is very good. It is the best tasting pre workout I have ever tried as it doesn’t have that fake sweetener taste of all the others I have had in the past. It isn’t overly sweet and is easy to drink, I am totally hooked. It contains 75mg of caffeine from guarana and green tea extract as well as 4g of BCAA’s which combine to help you work out for longer reducing fatigue and tiredness. I find this gives me a bit more ‘oomph’ towards the end of my session which helps me to feel more motivated and like I am closer to reaching my fitness goals.

Snacking when bored is one of my biggest health downfalls and MyProtein have designed a range of easy to grab snacks that should feed that hunger but also keep you fuller for longer. I am not a fan of the name but the Skinny Protein Bites are a lovely alternative to crisps. With 11g of protein and less than 100 calories, a bag of these babies in the afternoon is perfect to prepare you for a gym session after work. There is a range of flavours to try as well so you won’t get bored of the same taste. The cheese and jalapeño flavour have a lovely kick of heat for those who prefer something with a bit more punch.

If you have a sweet tooth you might prefer your snack to be cookie related and the Skinny Cookie’s definitely offer a sweet treat without raiding the vending machine. With two flavours (lemon & chia seed and cranberry & white chocolate) to choose from they boast 25g of protein per cookie and 80% less sugar than the supermarket alternative. They’re chewy like a fresh cookie yet have a slightly cake-y taste to them which I really like.

There is a vast range in the Active Women Range including puddings, protein powders and supplements to help you achieve your fitness goals without having to make difficult recipes. Whilst I would always advocate eating clean, these are a great way of staying on track when you just haven’t had the time to prep. Well done MyProtein, and thanks for helping me back into fitness.

I’ve never really been on board/worked out enough to consider these products! I swear by isotonic drinks/tablets for hiking though. If I manage to get into a routine again, I may just have to consider these!
