Juicing with Philips and Curry’s

When it comes to juicing I have to admit to being somewhat of a sceptic. I owned a juicer once and used it five times at the most. I just found it needed so much produce for so little juice and the amount of pulp that ended up in the bin seemed like such a waste. So when Joe’s Bloggers invited me to Leeds to try out the Philip’s range of juicers with Curry’s I was expecting to be incredibly unimpressed.

We were greeted by lots of fruit and vegetables and split into groups. My group were taken to an area set out to do yoga with Amanda from Yoga Elementz. Rocket yoga is something I +had never heard of before but it is more fast paced than other forms I have tried with quicker transitions between the different positions. I really enjoyed it and felt energised afterwards. I’ll certainly be giving yoga a go soon, anything that can improve my flexibility is a bonus!

Onto the juicing and we played with the Philip’s juicers using different fruit and vegetables. I tried to include more vegetables in mine so the fructose levels weren’t too high so added spinach and carrot which actually tasted pretty good.

We learned some very important lessons in terms of what you can and can’t juice, for example, plum stones don’t go through the machine. They make it smoke and create a really loud noise. We also learned that they don’t like orange peel either but most other things can be popped in whole. I learned that my old juicer was probably really rubbish as these ones extracted a lot more juice than mine ever did. They also looked like they would be a lot easier to clean which is a real bonus as mine was a real pain.

The highlight of the day for me was meeting nutritionist Shakela Shan who took juicing to the next level discussing the benefits that making additions to basic juices can have on the body. Avocado oil, super greens and matcha tea powder are just some of the super foods she talked about which can improve energy levels, skin condition and general health. I’ve reviewed matcha tea before and am a huge fan so she certainly encouraged me to go back to using that in my smoothies.

I’m not a convert to juicing, I don’t really believe that removing the pulp from fruit and vegetables is a good idea and I would always choose smoothies but I really enjoyed learning more about juicing and think, if you really struggle to eat vegetables, it is a good way to get some of the nutrients into your body quickly.

Thanks to Joe’s Bloggers and Curry’s for hosting the event. I attended as a guest and was not asked to pay for the experience.

I find smoothies litterally hard to swallow when I’ve just got up in the morning but I am always dehydrated so juicing sounds great!

I’ve just bought a Ninja 900 watt blender – no mess, use the whole fruit/veg and takes seconds to blend including ice. Best bit is the cleaning there is non really apart from the blade and the jug after you’ve finished with your drink (comes with a lid). I’ve even made soup in it. Anita
