Since I was 16 I haven’t worked somewhere near to shops. This is a good thing for those who know my ridiculous obsession with dresses and shoes, at least if the temptation isn’t there I am less likely to blow my wages the second they hit my bank account. This all changed when I started a new job 12 months ago just a 5 minute walk from Ashton Under Lyne town centre. I spent a good few months ignoring the shops and pretending that they weren’t there but more recently, I have started venturing out. On one of my journeys I spotted this delightful little cafe. It is bustling in nature and seems mad when you first walk in but the staff work together like a well oiled machine. The little cafe I am talking about is Mozaic and what an amazing find it was. The owner AJ moved to the UK from Morocco 6 years ago with his wife Esther who grew up in my home town of Stockport. He worked in top restaurants around Manchester before settling into his own cafe in the heart of Ashton, and I for one am so glad he did.
The place is small and is always busy but don’t let that put you off, you are still served in good time. They sell fabulous wraps and I usually opt for the lemon chicken (wonderfully spicy with just a hint of freshness from the lemon, it isn’t overpowering at all) with a dollop of houmous (homemade with the best kick of garlic I have tasted from houmous anywhere, and I’ve been to Morocco) accompanied with garlicky green beans on the side and some lettuce. Well I need to feel virtuous somehow!
You want to take it away and stuff your face sat at your desk? No problem… you want to eat in or, on a sunny day, sit outside? Not a problem either as there are some tables at the back of the cafe for you to eat in.
The star of the show here is the amazing value ‘chef’s daily special’ at just £3.80. It is certainly special, you get a bit of everything! It is a great way to start your journey with Mozaic as you can try a little bit of everything and then go back for more of what you liked the most. Trust me, you will be back again and again. Ever since I found this gem my boss goes at least twice a week and has praised them as being one of the main reasons he has lost so much weight in the last few months. Fresh ingredients, salad accompaniments and good fats. Perfect…
